NIUA is organizing a brainstorming session on the theme of "Heritage Cities" and will be discussing Inclusive Heritage Based City Development Programme (IHCDP-2) in collaboration with chief officials of World Bank, Cities Alliance, UNESCO, IHCN and INTACH. Under the IHCDP, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of four cities - Varanasi, Ajmer, Pushkar and Hyderabad will be a major topic of discussion.

Experts visit to Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) was organized by NIUA to facilitate knowledge sharing between with RMC and well performing cities in implementation of E-Governance initiatives. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Ajoy Kumar Singh, Secretary, Urban Development, Jharkhand who laid emphasis on the need to simplify access to government services through eGovernance. Participants included Under-Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, eGovernance experts from Bruhat Bangalore Mahangar Palike, Greater Vishakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Surat Municipal Corporation and other staff from Ranchi Municipal Corporation.

NIUA invites you to a Round table consultation on Research needs for promoting smarter, competitive cities, where we have Mr. Alain Le Saux, Secretary General of Metropolis (Barcelona) as the special guest speaker. He has received much appreciation for his pioneering role in promoting training and knowledge sharing between local governments across the globe. He has widely contributed in developing coordination structures between the World Associations of Cities and Local Authorities (G4, G4+, WACLAC and UCLG).

Metropolis and NIUA have initiated a collaboration to provide training and capacity building to enable cities to respond to increasingly complex urban planning, design, technology and development challenges. NIUA is also looking forward to becoming a regional training centre within the network of Metropolis International Training Institutes.

A one day national workshop 'Land Based Fiscal Tools' is being organised by MoUD under the PEARL (Peer Experience and Reflective Learning) Programme, in collaboration with the CBUD project supported by the World Bank. The Ministry had initiated actions to carry out an Inter-state comparative study of Land based Tools for exploring additional and innovative ways of generating financial resources for significant expansion of infrastructure in the Indian cities under CBUD projects. Accordingly the services of Shri Vidyadhar K Phatak, former Principal Chief, Town and Country Planning division in Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) were hired for the purpose. The workshop will thus discuss feedback on the report submitted by Shri Vidyadhar Phatak.
