NIUA India proudly announces the release of the report on 'Non-Metropolitan Class I Cities of India- Status of Demographic, Economic, Social Structures, Housing and Basic Infrastructure'. The report was released by Ms. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, Assistant-Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director, UN-Habitat and Dr. Nandita Chatterjee, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, on World Habitat Day, Monday, October 5th, 2015, at Vigyan Bhawan by Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. The report is an outcome of research conducted at NIUA under Phase II of the HUDCO Chair project during the period 2013-14 as part of the 3-year study, which looks at the various size class of urban settlements in India.
The report analyses the trends of urbanization, economic growth, structural transformation, employment and wage differentials, poverty, basic infrastructure, housing and levels of the social-indicators in Class-I non-metropolitan cities; and between the non-metropolitan cores and their peripheries.
It is expected that the report outcomes will help policy-makers in the process of informed decision making in taking forward the new launched Missions, namely, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Smart Cities Mission, and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation in a bid towards building a vibrant and inclusive India.
