In his theme address, Prof. Shah emphasized the objective of the mission of retaining the identity of the city in terms of heritage and economic activities while strengthening the core infrastructure and improving the quality of life. The conclave was held at Udaipur and was an interactive one day event to facilitate interaction with various stakeholders. The event also discussed the proposed two-tier structure of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the implementation of the Smart City Project in Udaipur.

Dr. Shyamala Mani, Professor, NIUA received the Bharat Jyoti Award for her contribution in the field of Environment and Health on October 26th 2015 at India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. She received the award from Shri. Bhishm Narain Singh, Former Union Minister and Governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam, Dr.G.V.G. Krishnamurthy, Former Chief Election Commissioner and Dr. Shekar Dutt, Former Governor of Tripura.

Dr. Shyamala Mani, Professor, NIUA received the Dr. Abdul Kalam Gold Medal Award for her contribution in the field of Environmental Management and Health in the category of Research and Medicine on October 15th 2015 at Chennai, on Dr. Abdul Kalam’s 84th birth anniversary. She received the award from Justice S. Mohan, Former Judge of the Hon. Supreme Court, Prof. Mannar Jawahar, Former Vice Chancellor of Anna University, Chennai and Prof.

NIUA India proudly announces the release of the report on 'Non-Metropolitan Class I Cities of India- Status of Demographic, Economic, Social Structures, Housing and Basic Infrastructure'. The report was released by Ms. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, Assistant-Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director, UN-Habitat and Dr. Nandita Chatterjee, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, on World Habitat Day, Monday, October 5th, 2015, at Vigyan Bhawan by Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

The 13th International Congress of the Asian Planning Schools Association (APSA 2015) was held on August 12-14, 2015 at Universiti Teknologi, (UTM) Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment of UTM hosted it. The theme of the conference was ‘ Towards an Asian Urban Agenda- Planning Asian Diverse-city, Intense-city, Complex-city and Authentic-city.

Indus Media together with partners FICCI, ICLEI, KfW, NIUA organised the summit as part of the Asia-Pacific Weeks Berlin 2015 at the Berlin CityCube. This was a one day summit that showcased the various projects announced by the Government of India under the "100 Smart Cities" initiative. This event provided a neutral platform for the visiting Indian Delegation to discuss the pressing urban issues and share knowledge and experience of Indian cities with European cities.

India m2m + iot Forum 2015 brought together the government and industry experts who discussed and deliberated upon a range of topics within the framed theme. Day one started with a brief talk by the Guest of Honour for the day, Her Excellency Mrs. Darja Bavdaž Kuret, Ambassador, Embassy of The Republic of Slovenia in India, who highlighted the technological advancements in Slovenia and synergies between India and Slovenia in the machine-to-machine (m2m) and internet of things (iot) space.

The Director, NIUA, visited Barcelona, Spain, from 18 - 22 November 2013, to attend the World Smart City Expo and a meeting of the organizing committee for the World Congress of the Metropolis network, to be organized in Hyderabad in October 2014.

Prof. Jagan Shah attended the sixth BRICS Academic Forum, held between 17 - 19 March, 2014 at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; in the run up to the BRICS Summit that is scheduled to be held in July. He presented a paper for a delegation that addressed issues under “Rapid Urbanization: the Challenge of the Mega Cities” during the three-day programme.

The Director, NIUA, attended the Conference on Smart & Liveable Cities, Infra Conclave Rajasthan; organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on 20 June 2014 at Jaipur. He addressed the Inaugural session and Plenary session 1 on "Need for Smart and Inclusive Cities", along with other senior dignitaries Mr Ashok Jain, Addl Chief Secretary – UDH & LSG, Govt. of Rajasthan; Mr Srinivas Janga Rao, Commissioner of Police – Jaipur, Govt. of Rajasthan and others.
