Urban Sector Reform for the Elected Representative

Two Workshops on Urban Sector Reforms for the Elected Representatives of Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation and Puri Municipality in the Orissa was organized by NIUA under the Indo-USAID FIRE-D Project with the support of Housing & Urban Development Department, Govt. of Orissa and State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), Orissa on 27th August and 28th August 2009 respectively. The purpose to organize the workshops in Bhubaneshwar and Puri separately was to create awareness and better understanding amongst the elected representatives of two cities about the urban reforms envisaged in the JnNURM agenda, which is a flagship programme of the Government of India.

The Workshops were well attended by large numbers of elected representatives of Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation and Puri Municipality respectively. The inauguration was done by lighting a lamp by Dr. A.K.Panda, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Housing & Urban Development, Government of Orissa, Dr. M.P.Mathur, Professor & Coordinator, FIRE-D Project, NIUA, Mr. R.N.Mallick, Director, Municipal Administration, Government of Orissa, Deputy Mayor of Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation, Mayor of Puri Municipality, Executive Officer, Puri Municipality and Project Manager, SUDA.

Dr. M.P.Mathur delivered the keynote address in Bhubaneshwar & Puri and also made presentations on Urban Reforms under JnNURM. Dr. H.K.Mohanty, Project Officer (PMU Cell), H&U Deptt. Government of Orissa made presentations on PPP methods and Public Disclosure Law. Mr. Nabhojit Dey, Project Officer, PRUDA delivered presentation on Property Tax Reforms. Mr. Anil Kumar Pattnaik, Project Manager, SUDA gave vote of thanks at Bhubaneshwar and Mr. Naveen Mathur , NIUA gave vote of thanks at Puri.
