NIUA organized a meeting of USAID and UNDP to discuss potential areas relating to water, sanitation and urban health. The meeting was attended by Ms. Rebecca Black, Director, Economic Growth Office, USAID-India, Mr. Robert M. Clay, Director, Office of Population, Health and Nutrition, USAID-India, Mr.N.Bhattacharjee, Urban Team Leader, USAID-India, Mr. Alkesh Sharma, National Project Coordinator, NSUP, Prof. Chetan Vaidya, Director and officials from NIUA.

USAID has been supporting the water and sanitation sector with high impacts. One of it's major projects, Financial Institutions Reform and Expansion-Debt Market (FIRE-D) works in India at the national, state and city levels to improve systems for delivery of water and sanitation services.

The next phase of FIRE-D Project would focus on urban sanitation and health with emphasis on urban poor, which is also a high priority for the Government of India through the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) component of the JNNURM.

The meeting was a step for fostering future partnership with USAID and NSUP.
