Event: North East Region Review Workshop on JNNURM

A review workshop on JNNURM for North-East Region was organized by the Ministry of Urban Development in association with the Government of Meghalaya in Shillong on September 22, 2008.

The meeting was attended by Mr. P.K.Srivastava, Joint Secretary and Director (JNNURM), MoUD, Mr.Harish Chandra, Advisor, Housing and Urban Development, Planning Commission, Prof. Saswat Bandopadhyay, CEPT, Prof. Chetan Vaidya, NIUA along with state and city officials from sister states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland and Mizoram.  Mr. Srivastava gave a brief background of JNNURM project and mentioned that MoUD has approved projects for all states of the North-East region however, implementation of reforms has been slow.  Mr. Harish Chandra said that the Government is reviewing allocation to N-E states under the Mission. 

Representatives of all the states/cities made presentations on status of projects and reforms.  They brought out various issues and problems of implementing the reforms in the region.  Mr. Nand Kumar, FITCH Ratings gave a brief background of the ongoing credit rating exercise for the ULBs.  Mr.Saswat Bandopadhyay made a presentation on urban project management.  Prof. Chetan Vaidya presented process of reform implementation under JNNURM.  The presentations were followed by extensive discussions.
