Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) in association with National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) organized a workshop to review the Capacity Building Programmes for Urban Local Bodies for the year 2012-13 at NIUA on 14 November 2011. The workshop was attended by around 30 participants representing Ministry, JNNURM technical cell and various training organizations. Ms. B.P. Sridevi, Director, (N-IV), MoUD welcomed the participants and briefly outlined the objective of the workshop.

 

 

Ms. Nisha Singh, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, JnNURM guided the deliberations of the workshop. She urged that urban training institutions need to develop and strengthen urban management skills and capacities in an earnest way so that city managers can govern their cities efficiently. She stressed on the need for effective orientation of elected representatives, as it would lead to better results and improved efficiency among ULB staff.

The participating institutions such as AIT, Mysore, RCUES, Hyderabad, AIILSG, Mumbai, YASHADA, Pune, IIT-Madras, IIM Bangalore presented an Introduction and brief description of capacity building strategy to be undertaken by them for the coming year. The presentations were followed by floor interactions, which was open for discussions by the participants.
