NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON REVIEW OF JNNURM REFORM AGENDA IMPLEMENTATION

The National Workshop on Review of JNNURM Reform Agenda Implementation was held on 29 November 2007, at New Delhi.  It was organized by NIUA, Ministry of Urban Development (Government of India) with support from Indo-USAID FIRE-D Project.  The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the status of implementation of the urban reforms, identify the issues/problems encountered and also provide solutions to make the mission more successful.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Urban Development, USAID, FIRE project, advisors in the technical group of the JNNURM, officials from the various state government who are involved with the implementation of the JNNURM project in various capacities, professionals, academics, representatives from International Agencies, Research and Training Institutes, Reform Appraisal Agencies etc. The days’ meeting was divided into three technical sessions as well as an introductory session and a way forward in which the feed back from various participants were heard in order to understand the status of implementation of the reform agenda.

The presence of members of the advisory committee, senior representatives from the Ministry who are the architects of the mission, to discuss the issues/ problems with the representatives of the states/cities and other related people in the field added to the effectiveness of the programme. The feedback on the implementation of JNNURM reforms would enable the Ministry develop better understanding of the reform agenda and provide possible guidelines to go forward.
