Strengthening City Managers Association in India

NIUA in collaboration with the CMA Gujarat (CMAG) has organized the workshop on Strengthening City Managers Association in India under the USAID FIRE- D project at Ahemdabad on 4 September 2009. Six CMA's namely CMAK, CMAMP,CMAR, CMAWB, CMAM and CMAG participated in the workshop and made presentations on role, achievements issues and suggestions to strengthen CMA movement in the county. This could help in addressing the GoI reform agenda and develop the capacities of urban institutions to make the cities livable, vibrant and productive. Most of the professionals who initiated the CMA movement in India including Mr P.U. Asnani, Mr Chetan Vaidya, Mr. N.Bhattacharjee, Ms.Manivita Baradi, Mr Amitabh Ray and Mr. Lee Baker participated in the workshop and gave their valuable inputs to strengthen CMAs. Mr I.P. Gautam, Commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation inaugurated the workshop and addressed the gathering. While concluding the workshop in the way forward session (panelist comprised of Mr. N.Bhattacharjee, Mr. Abhijit Ray and Prof. Mukesh Mathur) recommended constitution of a National Level Coordination Committee to review performance of CMAs on a regular basis and to make them visible entities in addressing the urban reform agenda. NIUA could play a vital role in this regard. It was also suggested that a meeting of CMAs is planned after the interval of every 3-4 months to discuss their performance and issues. Workshop ended with the vote of thanks by the host-CMAG. |
