16 February, 2010

NIUA, New Delhi

A peer review meeting was convened at NIUA on 16 February. At the outset, Prof. Chetan Vaidya welcomed all the partners of the project. He mentioned that the study being done in both the cities have to go on parallel to each other. A lot of data has been collected and it is critical to come out with findings that are broad and not confine to the selected cities alone. We have developed a common chapterization scheme for the final report and analysis from both cities could fit in the format. Thereon, he invited, Prof. KT Ravindran to make a presentation on Faridabad case study area.

Prof. Ravindran, SPA spoke elaborately on the whole to part approach being undertaken for Faridabad study. He introduced Faridabad in the regional context, its linkages and connectivity and moved to introducing the four detailed areas. He shared with the team findings of one detailed area on environmental theme. This was followed by a case study presentation on Rajkot by Prof. Utpal Sharma, CEPT. Prof. Sharma gave a detailed overview of the 6 selected areas in the city.

Prof. Dinesh Mehta mentioned that it is important to understand what is sustainable urban form, what are those common set of parameters on which both the teams are going to make analysis and what are the lessons drawn from these case study areas.
