Sustainable Development on March 26-28, 2008.
Dr.
Basudha Chattopadhyay,
Research Analyst, National Institute of Urban Affairs, participated and
presented a paper titled Public Policy and Sustainable Development of
Small Towns in India : A Review in
this Conference.
This study reviews
the public policy on small town development in
India
in the context of sustainable development and climate change.
It mainly explores the relation between lack of growth of small
towns and lack of employment opportunities and basic services in them.
It examines whether the public policies regarding the development
of small towns in
India
lead to sustainable development of small towns, whether there was any role
of environment defined in these policies and what is required to make the
small towns sustainable.
