Prof. Chetan Vaidya, Director, NIUA was invited by Institute of
Rural Management (IRMA), Anand to make a presentation on “ Market-
Based Urban Infrastructure financing: Opportunities for Support”
during a workshop on Issues Before 13th Finance Commission (TFC) on 22-23
December 2008. Around 40 participants comprising scholars and experts working in the field of financial decentralization to the Panchayati Raj Institutions, representatives of various departments of the Government of India and the state governments presented papers on select themes. Ms. Indira Rajaraman, Member, Mr. Sumit Bose, Secretary, Mr. Bhullar JS, Mr. B. Baskar, Director from TFC were also present for the workshop. Prof. Om Mathur, NIPFP, made a presentation on “ Recommendations of State Finance Commissions (SFCs) for urban Local Bodies”. Other participants included Chairman/Members of SFCs from Bihar, Uttrakhand, Assam, Karnataka, MP etc.
