The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is a premier institute for urban research in India. Its main aim is to assist and strengthen the decision-making process by making available to policy makers a critical and objective analysis of the urban situation as well as alternative sets of approaches to urban problems.

Submissions of papers are invited for the institute's bi-annual journal URBAN INDIA on issues related to urban development, management and governance including urbanisation and urban policy, urban management, financing of urban infrastructure and services, urban poverty, urban environment, municipal finance, e-governance, and decentralisation besides others. The submission should not generally exceed 6000-8000 words including tables and references.

3 Submission of a paper will be presumed to imply that it contains original unpublished work and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere
4 Manuscripts should be double spaced, with 1-inch margins, and printed on one side of the paper only (A4 or letter size). All pages should be numbered consecutively. Titles and subtitles should be short. References, tables, and figures should be printed on separate pages.
5 The first page of the manuscript should contain the following information: (i) the title; (ii) the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s); (iii) an abstract of 150 words. A footnote on the same sheet should give the name, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.
6 Acknowledgements and information on grants received can be given in a first footnote, which should not be included in the consecutive numbering of footnotes.
7 Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and numbered consecutively throughout the text with superscript Arabic numerals. They should be double-spaced and not include displayed formulate or tables.
8 Displayed formulae should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscripts as (1), (2), etc. against the right-hand margin of the page. In cases where the derivation of formulae has been abbreviated, it is of great help to the referees if the full derivation can be presented on a separate sheet (not to be published).
9 References to publications should be as follows. "Klein (1977) reported that…" or "This problem has been studied previously (e.g. Theil, 1970)". The author should make sure that there is a strict one-to-one correspondence between the names and years in the text and those on the list.
10 References should appear at the end of the main text before tables and figures. It should be double spaced and listed in alphabetical order by author's name. References should appear as follows:

For journal articles
Tobin, J. (1958), Liquidity Preference as Behaviour Towards Risk, Review of Economic Studies, Vol. 25, 65-86.
Note that journal titles should not be abbreviated.

For contributions to collective works
Brunner, K., Meltzer, A.H. (1990), Money supply, in: Friedman, B.M., and F.H. Hahn, eds., Handbook of Monetary Economics, Vol. 1,357-396, North-Holland, Amsterdam.

For Books:
Dornbusch, R. (1980), Open Economy Macroeconomics, Basic Books, New York.
11 Tables should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals and printed on separate sheets.
12 Illustrations if required must be drawn professionally and  provided with the manuscript.
13  An abstract of 100–150 words must be given.
14  Material submitted to the Journal should not be published/under review for publication elsewhere; a declaration to this effect should accompany the manuscript.
15 Authors should send a brief resume indicating institutional affiliation, title of position, address, phone/fax number and email address.

Soft copies of accepted papers must be submitted by email  (urbanindia@niua.org) or on CD.  Illustrations, tables, etc.  should be included as part of the electronic document.

Any manuscript which does not conform to the above instructions may be returned for necessary revisions before publication.

One copy of the journal will be sent to the authors whose papers have been accepted.
