Call for Manuscripts

National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is a premier institute for research, capacity building and dissemination of knowledge for the urban sector in India. It conducts research on urbanization, urban policy and planning, municipal finance and governance, land economics, transit oriented development, urban livelihoods, environment & climate change and smart cities.

Keeping up with its mission of disseminating research in the urban realm far and wide, the Institute intends to prepare a special volume on cities and urbanization, in Hindi. The book aims to augment basic knowledge of Indian readers on the urbanization challenge and the range of issues prevailing in cities, including but not limited to: jobs and migration, land and housing, access to basic services, water & sanitation, mobility & transportation, urban finance, administration & e-governance, social inclusion, institutions & civil society, heritage & conservation, and environment and climate change.  

Contributions are invited on the above topics as individual chapters for the book. Being an essential reader on the subject, each chapters is expected to vividly contextualize the topic within the urban sphere, explain the associated problems and issues, review relevant legislations, policies & practices, and discuss way forward to meet the urbanization challenge. The full chapter manuscript is expected to be within 7000-8000 words duly typed double-spaced in Mangal (Unicode) font.  The manuscript should bear both in-text citation and end of the chapter references in APA citation style (6th edition).  All submissions are to be made through email to the Editor ( on or before 23 October 2017. The authors may, in prior consult their topics of interest and abstracts with the Editor. In special circumstances, limited assistance may be provided in translation (on case basis).
