Mr. Vijay K. Dhar is a HUDCO Chair Professor at the Institute and has about 25 years professional experience in the field of Urban Planning, Housing and Environment sector. He has a Master Degree in Geography from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Town and Country Planning with specialisation in Urban and Regional Planning from School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi. He has initiated, guided and coordinated research on many topics including urban planning, public-private partnership in Land and Housing, urban management, urban poverty and evaluation of Government policies and programmes in the field of urban planning and management. He has conducted training programmes on there topics for the state government and municipal officials. He has number of published papers and research reports on the subjects mentioned above. He has published a large number of research based papers in journals of international and national repute. He is a member of various committees constituted in the filed of urban housing, land development and urban management.

P.G. Diploma in Town and Country Planning (Urban and Regional Planning).  Did an academic course in Urban Management from Institute of Local Government Studies, University of Birmingham, U.K., participated in five weeks course on Geographic analysis at Hawaii, (USA), five week course in Urban Resource Management and Environment at North Carolina (USA) and two week course on Environmental Infrastructure at Washington, D.C. (USA).  Has  about twenty years experience at the National Institute of Urban Affairs, New Delhi and another two years at Town and Country Planning Department, Uttar Pradesh, mostly in preparation of comprehensive land use plans (Regional/Master/Zonal Plans) and Integrated Urban Development Projects and research studies consultancy and preparation of Alternative Urban Planning models for organizing urban planning and development, delivering of serviced land, evaluation studies and training in the field of urban planning and development focusing on the issues which are of vital importance for policy implications.

I have had the opportunity to work in the professional field as well as in the academic institute in the field of my specialization i.e. Urban and Regional Planning.  In the field, I was involved in the preparation, implementation and execution of master plans, regional plans and integrated urban development projects while in an academic institute, I have been involved in the research and training in the field of Housing, Urban and Environmental planning focusing on issues which are of vital importance for policy implications. The noteworthy institutions I have been associated with as a visiting faculty are HSMI (HUDCO), Regional Centre of Urban and Environmental Studies, (RCEUS), Bombay, National Institute of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, IGNOU, New Delhi IAMR, New Delhi, HCM Institute of Public Administration, Jaipur, I have also been giving radio-talks on various problems in the field of housing and urban environment.
